from the book Musgrave to Mosgrove 1066-1979:" John Gillespie and wife Margaret Chadwick came
to America from County Tyrone, Ireland ,when daughter Mary was an infant. They landed in New
York Harbor and came directly to Ligonier, PA, where other members of the Gillespie family had
located and here their last 3 children were born. They were members of the Presbyterian Church and
in 1801 theymoved to Kittanning to make their home there. John Gillespie, Esq., was one of the
pioneer settlers ofArmstrong County and he lived and reared his family on the southeast corner of
Jefferson and Archstreets, directly opposite the 1st Presbyterian Church. John and Margaret later in
life longed to go backto Ligonier, which they did and Margaret died and was buried there. John, now
left alone, returned toKittanning whee he spent the remainder of his days with his family. He died in
1835 and is buried inthe old Kittanning graveyard on Jefferson St.
John Gillespie was a brother of Neal Gillespie, an Irishman, who came to the west bank of the
Monogahela and settled in 1784 on the "Indian Hill tract" which had previously been the property of "
Indian Peter" opposite Brownsville. Thei land upon his death became the property of his son, Neal
Gillespie, Jr. of Washington Co."

Mary Gillespie Mosgrove, daughter of John is a cousin to James Gillespie Blaine, grandson of Neal Jr.
The book "Musgrave to Mosgrove"also states John and Neal were brothers.
From Adam Gillespie's family Bible and Gail Gillespie Edwards research, Gails's family believes that
JohnGillespie came to America with his wife Margaret, David and other children ( possibly Samuel,
Christopher and William), but they have to proof other than family stories. They also believe John's
father David came with them.
